sustainable experience: in field research.

This long weekend was a perfect opportunity to do some research and discover a little bit about the first sector of the economy, the primary. The primary sector of the economy is about extracting the raw materials to produce stuff.

Living within this community taught me a lot about our society and how being sustainable would have a lot more advantages than living the same way we are doing now.

After visiting the markets I went by this car, it is a recycled car. It is however been adjusted to be a high performance car. the look of the car has been kept so it gives a vintage look however  it is mint on the inside and the engine roars like a tiger.

Why do we need to buy new cars when we can fix all of the ones in the dump? Great example of sustainability. cherp

This is how the landscape will look if we were sustainable. In my opinion looks better than any building.

At the markets the food is organic, people gathers shares and sell the products they have grown themselves. It is enough and the waste is reused in the farm. most of the containers and boxes are recycled.
This animal was shot in order to feed a whole family. This family lives of the land they hunt their food and eat what they need no more. This is an example of sustainability.

The Hangi traditional maori style of cooking. first some rocks are heated up at high temperatures then the food is placed on top and water is added, it is  a natural oven. no need for stoves gas petrol or electricity it is fun and everyone helps. great example of sustainability.

Although it seems quite sad, this was a happy pig, It was clean and it served a purpose. One of the worst issues with consumerism is the animals and their suffering they are put in confined spaces where they only feed. This animals have no where to go. sadly this is what we eat caged eggs, KFC Mc Donald's, Burger King and so on.

The extraction of a few pauas from the ocean was enough to feed a whole family. The shells are reused for various purposes.

After experiencing this way of life where people can coexist with nature I learnt that it is possible to live a happy life only living of the land. This people seem a lot more happy friendly and I am sure more healthy.
I would like to use some of this material I collected to inform people from the cities the importance of taking care of the environment. Also how lifestyle can be improved by doing it so.

Wall e movie

Walee movie

surface  research

This movie is of a great relevance to my research because its more than a children story. This movie is a warning. This movie shows what can happen in the future if we dont stop polluting and producing things we dont need. This is what will happen if we dont transform out consumerist lifestyle into a sustainable lifestyle. Lucky for the humans in the movie they managed to build a spaceship and live comfortably unfortunately for us this is not yet a possibility.

What I would like to do next based on this movie is a sculpture, I really like the way this robot collects the rubbish and piles it up into skyscrapers. For me this means that this is what we get for worshiping money and consumerism. piles and piles of rubbish.

So this is what happen to our beautiful computers. No one of us have enough time to stop and think where do all our waste will end up. Our consumerist society has make sure this and many other environmental tragedies are kept hidden from our eyes. All we have to do is to buy another computer and then open Facebook, or youtube and all our worries are over. Unfortunately for this people its a different reality.

This work is relevant to my project because, It explains how consumerism has devastating effects in the environment and why we have to act in a more sustainable way.

I would like to visit one of this very sad places and inform people about whats going on because this people live ignorant of what they are doing. They cant see the effects because they're not immediate.

This video is very interesting I think consumerism is a way of life no different to any other one. However this particular one threatens not only with our own existance but also many different species and ecosystems.
