As part of my research I watched the movie Wall e. this movie is futuristic vision of what the planet will be after 700 years. The movie showed a solar robot which piles up the rubbish in cubes and made skyscrapers out of them.
My key words are consumerism and sustainability. One of the most important symbols of consumerism is the development of the economy. This evolved into what is called finance and economics. the most consumerist planet in the world according to studies is the united states of America. America consumes more that it can be consumed. This society is all about acquisition of real state and goods. One of the points where wealth is managed is New york. New York is one of the most important cities in the world because here is where business are made. New York is know for its hundredths of skyscrapers many of them serve as financial and economic points.
I have used this concepts to create a replica of the empire states building however I wanted to portrait the consequences of this wealth and economic growth. So I wanted to put in display this overproduction of rubbish which will be around for centuries and still there is no way to get rid of it.
I paired up with a few fellow students and we built a replica of a skyscraper of rubbish. the purpose of it is to raise self awareness of mass consumption and recycling. this building is going to be a contrast of rubbish and nature and it is developing. the next step is to find something positive to do with this pile of contaminants and rubbish.
